I worked for many years in Africa as an expedition leader but now spend rather more time driving the office than driving a Land Rover. I'm occasionally allowed out of the office and have recently visited Ecuador, Brazil and Tanzania. This year I've recced a new ride in Bulgaria (fast horses!) and had an Ethiopia "taster"!
In 2008 I realised a lifelong ambition and climbed Kili: over the years I've taken many groups there, but events have always conspired against me and I had never actually managed to set foot on the mountain! It was a real pleasure to finaly make the trek. Fantastic mountain, one of the very best treks. It rivals my "15 minutes of fame" which was to lead the expedition that ran Ben Nevis, Sca Fell and Mount Snowdon in 15 hours 28 minutes (way back in 1983!) and that was, for a short time, a Guinness World Record.
I am a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
