Africa Venture Phase 1:
- Game Ranger Skills in Caprivi, Namibia
- Cultural Orientation & Learn local Languages, Siphwe and Lozi
Total time = Three weeks
“The best four months of my life so far! Would do it all again with
exactly the same people, the group were great, we were like one big family”
Sarah Barr, 2007.
Your adventurous introduction to Africa
Our gateway to Africa is by air to Johannesburg in South Africa. We move
quickly north to Zambia and Victoria Falls before reaching Caprivi in
Namibia. We can't pass the falls without exploring in the footsteps of
David Livingstone and we spend 3 days here to absorb Africa's charm and
acclimatise to a new continent. At over a mile wide, Victoria Falls are
the biggest in Africa, you'll do far more than just stand by them in awe;
soar high above them in a helicopter, then put on a life jacket, grab
a paddle and step into a raft for one of the most exhilarating experiences
of your life! Raft the mighty Zambezi!
After all this adventure, you spend an evening on a more relaxed part
of the river, having a drink as you unwind on a sunset cruise.
Caprivi Region Game Ranger Wilderness Skills
After the adventure at Victoria Falls in Zambia, we journey to the beautiful
Caprivi Region of Namibia. The Caprivi region is a lush green strip with
permanent rivers and vast woodlands providing a stunning environment for
the natural world.
Africa for many people is all about the wildlife, and that is where your
cultural introduction will start. In order to fully appreciate the astounding
diversity of flora and fauna that Africa has to offer - you need to learn
how to find it!
Your first task in Namibia is to learn survival techniques from finding
water to making fire. Train to drive off road and conduct game drives,
and discover how to track and approach wild animals. You can even practice
rifle handling and shooting skills. You will discover just what it takes
to be a Game Ranger in this 2 week practical course, which will have you
uncovering edible plants during nights spent out in the remote African
Wilderness!
At the heat of the day we take advice from the animals, and seek out
shade from the midday sun. Under the shelter of a Baobab tree we practice
the local languages such as Siphwe and Lozi with our guides and trackers.
After these long wilderness days, evening brings cooler temperatures and
we cook dinner on the open fire listening to the sounds of the wildlife
change as day turns to night. Have you learned enough yet to identify
them by their call? Pour yourself a drink, put your feet up and listen
to Africa.
