This awesome itinerary mixes volunteering on the Book Bus project with an 8 day adventure from Victoria Falls to Johannesburg via Chobe National Park, Okavango delta and Khama Rhino Sanctuary.
Your adventure begins in Livingstone with 2 weeks volunteering on the Book Bus. The Book Bus is a mobile library and book distribution service. To find out more click here.
After 2 weeks promoting reading and story telling with children in Livingstone you’ll join an adventure tour travelling through Botswana and South Africa.
Days 1-15
On board the Book Bus
Day 16 Zimbabwe – Victoria Falls – Botswana - Kasane
Please note - This tour starts at Victoria Falls in Zimbabawe. Your Book Bus leader will assist you with transport from Livingstone. (Cost not included)
On arrival your guide will brief you on the next few days. Today we visit the spectacular Victoria Falls and experience the thundering sound of the mighty Zambezi before crossing the Botswana border to Kasane, on the banks of the Chobe River and enjoy a scenic river cruise.

Day 17 Maun
There is the possibility of an optional game drive in Chobe before we drive through to Maun. On arrival we prepare for our 2-day expedition into the Okavango. The rivers leading to the Okavango Delta have no passage to the ocean and irrigate instead some 15,000 square km’s of Kalahari Desert – forming the world’s largest inland Delta. Optional Activities: Early Morning Game Drive in Chobe NP, Crocodile Farm visit.

Days 18/19 Okavango Delta
During your time in the Delta we enjoy the best nature has to offer. We go on nature walks and explore the Delta by mokoro traditional canoe (water level dependant). The Delta is truly spectacular and an unforgettable experience as the wild animals here are not used to people. Simply sitting and relaxing often results in rewarding bird or game viewing. We travel in to the Delta on a large 4x4 vehicle - in high water season boats are used. We join up with some of the local people and set up our bush camp for the next 2 nights.

Days 20/21 Gweta
We leave the Delta behind us and travel east. This afternoon we drive to Planet Baobab where our accommodation for the next two nights is unique, and a little quirky. The next day we have an included Baobab Nature Walk with a sundowner drink to view the unusual trees that grow in this area. The Makgadikgadi Pans are nearby and there is the possibility to visit them, or take a visit to a local village. Optional Activities: Village Tour, Nxai Xini Pan trip, Ntwetwe Pan trip, flight over the Delta

Day 22 Khama Rhino Sanctuary - Palapye
We leave Gweta behind us and drive towards Palapye, located on the banks of the tranquil Lotsane River. We stop at the Khama Rhino Sanctuary, a community based wildlife project, where there is an included game drive to view the now protected Rhinos.

Day 23 South Africa - Johannesburg
Today we cross the border into South Africa and after quite a long, yet scenic drive we will arrive in Johannesburg. South Africa’s city of gold has much to offer and should not be underestimated as a travel destination. Optional Activity: Dinner.
