My
heart goes out to the family and friends of the girls involved in
this tragic incident. I didn't know any of the girls involved, but
as a keen traveller, felt so sad for these young women, doing what
they loved. I really hope the families and friends can get through
the next few weeks with courage and love. R.I.P to the young women,
taken too soon from their loved ones. |

My
deepest condolences for the family and friends of those who have lost
their lives in this appalling tragedy. I
travelled with VentureCo on the same trip three years ago and I've
had no greater experience before or since. Quito was a prominent
highlight and I hope, at least some comfort, can be found in knowing
what a fantastic experience these young people had before the accident. |

Our
thoughts and hearts reach out to all family and friends of those who
died in this terrible accident and to the staff-team at Ventureco.
Our
daughter is travelling with the group which left 4weeks earlier
on the same expedition. The group has been shaken by the accident
as they try to make sense of why this tragedy happened to one group
and not another.
We
were able to pass on to her that the parents of those who died did
not wish this accident to deter others and this has been a comfort
and reassurance to her and her friends.
Thank
you for having the strength, despite your pain, to continue to encourage
young people.
Our
daughter and her group are continuing with their adventure and their
learning and we believe that this will be a small tribute to Sarah,
Emily, Rebecca, Indira and Lizzie.

My
thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost daughters, sisters
and friends, and to the fellow venturers who endured such a terrible
ordeal. The young women who died went out into the world full of energy
and hope. Their desire to enrich their own lives and those of others
is inspiring. Equally inspiring has been the courage and professionalism
of all at VentureCo. I'm proud to know you. |

My
sympathys go to all the girls family and friends, i myself was on
the same road on a similar bus, just many years earlier. Life can
hang on such small strokes of fate...
One of Sarah Howards former colleagues has been in contact with
me and i thought i would share his thoughts. He is called Giles
Dawney and is now crewing out in Fiji.
'I
first met Sarah 5 years ago and was immediately touched by her natural
warmth and immediate friendliness. We were about to go off to Peru
together to crew the first ever Madventurer project there together.
I think we were both apprehensive, as being only 21 years old each
the pair of us, we were suddenly about to be projected into a situation
of a lot of responsibility. However she was calm, happy, seemed
organized and knew her stuff. She had this incredible way of putting
people around her at total ease with her engaging, intelligent and
understanding personality. Any doubts I had about whether I'd get
on with this person melted away in about 10 seconds of knowing her.
I
subsequently had the pleasure of working with her in the small village
of Llupa in northern Peru for 5 weeks running a school renovation
project. We had a group of about 15. Over the course of the month
it soon became apparent that I was working alongside an absolute
superstar in the making. Her ability to be organized, fun, intuitive,
perceptive was just incredible. She was a total natural, putting
everyone at ease and taking time for their problems and difficulties
with dealing with this new and alien culture. She had this unique
ability to see the problem from the point of view of whoever had
it, thus talk through it with them on their level and help them
overcome it. That sort of emotional intelligence at the age of 21
is mind blowing.
The
village of Llupa absolute adored her for the passion she put into
making the project work, adaptability to work with them and their
cultural subtleties and flawless Spanish. Whenever I went back in
the following years, the mention of her name in conversation with
the locals there would make them grin ear-to-ear. She had the total
respect of the group and was consistently able to gently switch
from the necessary figure of authority that was required to friend
and confident of those who needed her. Her priority was the happiness
of who she was in charge of, and that shone so brightly through.
It's no lie to say that I occasionally had the odd envious moment
of her natural abilities in the role - I learnt so much for her
over just 5 weeks.
Since
then we remained good friends. Whenever we caught up she was always
involved in a new adventure that involved pushing herself and making
the world a better place for those around her. The fact that she
was just in Ecuador was because she had recently gone back to England
to work and couldn't handle not being back out in the field. She
had only just got this new job and was buzzing. That's what makes
her tragedy easier to bear in some respects; she was out somewhere
she loved, doing some thing she loved and being able to share her
passions with her group. I am certain that when it all went wrong
she was exactly where she wanted to be in life - and that is very
rare.
To
work with her and be her friend was and is a real honour. Working
overseas in difficult and stressful environments where passions
run high is consistently challenging and exhausting. I never ever
heard a bad word said against her, which to me speaks volumes of
one of the most talented people I have ever met. I was extremely
proud to be associated with her as a colleague and am overwhelmingly
happy to have been her friend'.
May
she rest in peace.

I
was so shocked and deeply saddened when I heard the news.
It
seems like just yesterday I got back from my Inca adventure with
VentureCo, which is actually 3 years ago now.
My thoughts are with the families of these girls.. whom I never
knew, but I know how happy and excited they would've have been to
be out there. It was the best experience of my life... truly. |

I
extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the five
young ladies who recently lost their lives in Ecuador. These young
people were not in Ecuador just as tourist, they were volunteers who
were freely willing to give up their time working in the community
and hoping to improve in a small way the living conditions of the
local people, their death is a loss for as all. My
son went to Ecuador as part of the Inca VentureCo group in 2006,
he had a fantastic experience, his trip was extremely well organised,
and I feel that everything that could have possibly been done to
make his experience safe and enjoyable, was done!
VentureCo
we need you. I hope that you will continue to give young people
the opportunity to fulfil their dreams, and countries like Ecuador,
Asia, Southern Africa and others, the opportunity to benefit from
the good that these young people are eager to do.

My
deepest sympathies go out to the families and friends of all involved
in this tragic accident. It's such a terrible loss. I
spent a wonderful four months in India with VentureCo back in 2004.
They provided nothing but the best support for our group and I would
have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone. I want to send
my best wishes to the team at VentureCo at this difficult time.

We
are so very sorry for the pain that the bereaved families have to
bear. Their bravery in sharing their thoughts with us really moved
us. What a loss to lose these marvellous girls with their lives ahead
and the experience of great family lives behind them. Our
daughter Mary went on the same trip last year so we could empathise
on a small scale.
We send our thoughts and our prayers and our best wishes to the
parents and families of those who lost their lives in this unbelievable
tragedy.
