Economic Sustainability Policy & Fair Trade

Aim:

VentureCo is committed to working with local communities and individuals to use locally sourced products, services and skills thereby ensuring that as much of the Overseas Operations Budget as possible remains within the host community.

This is achieved by:

  • Throughout the Venture we use locally owned facilities, services and accommodation.
  • We establish partnerships that are locally-owned and income-generating, such as guiding, white-water rafting and wilderness outfitters so that host communities derive direct economic benefit from our visit.
  • During the work project phase Venturers give their enthusiasm and labour freely and we supplement it with funding from the VentureCo Trust. To work in conjunction with the host community creates an equal ownership of the project between host community and Venturers.
  • VentureCo employ in-country Project Managers to co-ordinate the project phase. Such people are nationals and residents of the host country. Their role includes instigating projects in liaison with local communities; co-ordinating Venturer in-put and evaluating project results. Project Managers are salaried thus income is introduced to the heart of a community.
  • All office tea and coffee supplies come from Oxfam's Fair Trade selection
