Venture Overview

The Incas believed Cusco was the centre of the universe: the Spanish believed they had found El Dorado, “The land of endless wealth” and the “Victorian Establishment” was shaken to its core by Darwin’s ideas. South America has a long tradition of surprising Europeans! This Venture explores the amazing range of habitats, ecosystems and communities of the northwest corner of South America, along with the plants, animals and people that call them “home”. This is South America at its most varied.

Three phases make one Venture:

• Learn Spanish
• Explore from Andes to Amazon and from Lake Titicaca to the Galapagos Islands.
• Work on a Galapagos conservation project.

Venture Highlights

• Know before you Go! Our three-day Travel Safety Course in the UK gets you ready for departure.
• No habla espanol? Three weeks of Spanish tuition and cultural orientation in Ecuador and Peru will get you on the right track (includes a two-week family stay in Cusco)
• Discovery expedition from the Andes to the Amazon. Five weeks of adventure through Peru and Ecuador including a four day trek to Machu Picchu and the "lost city of the Incas", island hopping on Lake Titicaca and local community visits, the mysterious Nasca Lines and an offshore visit to the Ballestas Islands marine reserve, pioneering trek to open a little known Inca Trail in northern Peru, surfing in the Pacific and whitewater rafting in the Amazon!
• Make your travels make a difference to the world. Join our conservation project on the Galapagos Islands for three-weeks and play a vital role in habitat development for the islands' endangered species.
• Unique eight-day wildlife cruise on the Galapagos Islands. Explore the "Enchanted Isles" by motor cruiser, meet the innocent wildlife and discover why the Galapagos Islands are one of the world's top dream destinations.

Thinking about onward travel?

This Venture is a comprehensive introduction to travelling in South America so when it's all over, why not stay on? South America itself is a huge continent and countries like Bolivia, Argentina and Brazil are within easy reach of your Venture finish point. Further a field you can fly north to Central America and make use of your Spanish language skills in countries like Guatemala, Mexico and even Cuba! Airline connections are available to incorporate South America into a Round the World travel plan.
