Field Conditions


Where do we stay?:

  • The Selva Alegre hostel during Quito language school
  • Family stays for those working on the Quito project
  • The VentureCo field base for those working on the Machalilla project
  • Hostels and guesthouses whilst travelling on the expedition
  • Self supported camping at the Great Inca Road project site
  • Self supported camping on the Inka Naani trek
  • Mountain huts when crossing the Uyuni Salt Flats
  • Jungle lodges in Bolivian Amazon
  • Family stay on Lake Titicaca
  • Family stay during Cusco language school
  • Self supported camping on the Salkantay trek
  • All meals are provided from the Venture food budget and will reflect the local flavours.

  • Buses in and around Quito
  • Buses to and from the project sites in Ecuador
  • Buses when travelling through Ecuador and Peru
  • Truck to mountain project site in Peru
  • Speed boats to the Ballestas Islands
  • Light aircraft over the Nasca lines
  • 4x4 vehicles to cross the Uyuni Salt Flats
  • Canoes and motorboats in the Amazon
  • Scheduled flight from Rurrenabaque to La Paz
  • Motorised launch across Lake Titicaca
  • Train to Cusco from Machu Picchu
  • Scheduled flight from Cusco to Lima.

Adventure Activities:

  • Whitewater rafting in Ecuador
  • Mountain biking in Ecuador and/or Peru
  • Wilderness trekking in Peru and Bolivia
  • Jungle exploration in Bolivia

Group Size:

  • Major Incident Plan (MIP) rehearsed in our head office and tested.
  • Following over 20 years expedition experience in Ecuador and Peru, we have a tried and tested network of local resources to call upon in times of trouble.
  • Emergency evacuation and personal travel insurance: it’s crucial that everyone is covered. Our travel insurance providers are specialists who cover such events as the Paris-Dakar rally and Marathon du Sable.
