If you’re planning to travel independently, but don’t know where to start, then a Savvy Traveller course could be just what you’re looking for. Savvy Traveller’s step-by-step introduction to travelling overseas guides you through a wide range of topics including choosing a route and booking your flights, personal security while overseas, how to find accommodation in the developing world, how to handle an emergency situation and how to find work placements on volunteer development projects.

If you’re not sure about travelling alone, then joining a Savvy Traveller group will put you in touch with up to 15 other like-minded travellers. Savvy Traveller courses appeal to aspiring independent travellers, from all over the world, of all different backgrounds and from 18 to 80! Whether you’re looking for an in-country introduction for your travels or a short break that is out of the ordinary, Savvy Traveller will stimulate your imagination and open up a whole new destination for you to explore.

The following Savvy Traveller courses are available:

  • Savvy Traveller UK is a weekend course based in The Peak District that covers personal health, equipment matters, route planning and overseas security so that you are well prepared for long haul travel, before you go.

  • Savvy Traveller South America is a two week course based in Ecuador that orientates you when you arrive and reveals the huge range of travel options available, including language schools, volunteer projects and adventure activities.

  • Savvy Volunteer is your opportunity to contribute and participate on one of the VentureCo Trust’s projects in South America. Each project is connected to a local community and tackles both community and environmental issues. Savvy Volunteers can join a project placement for 2, 3 or 4 weeks.


All Savvy Traveller courses are run by experienced VentureCo leaders who will show you the tricks of the trade and the rules of the road: Be inspired to travel with confidence and make the most of your trip.
