A Taste Sensation

Team Indochina met in their entirety for the first time at a wonderful guest house in Bangkok. Having arrived from various parts of Africa, Asia, and of course, the UK, the group caught up on some Z’s before heading out into the wilds of nocturnal Bangkok. The infamous Khao San Road was our first stop, and when we arrived there we were inspired with the hustle and bustle of it all. On the Khao San Road, anything is possible. Transform yourself from a fresh faced traveller on your first venture, to a hardened hippy by having your hair dreadlocked and buying the obligatory Tiger beer vest and fire poi. Stave off those hunger pangs with delicious Pad Thai cooked right before your eyes, rounded off with fresh mango and coconut milk. If you forgot to pack your student card, or fancy getting a counterfeit pilot’s license, the Khao San Road is your one stop shop. And all this while you muddle your way through hoards of fellow back packers, tuk-tuk pushers and the odd ladyboy.
I’d promised the group we would sample some local culture and so after we’d spent some time taking in all the delights of the Khao San Road we were feeling a bit peckish. ‘Eat, travel and live like locals’, that’s the VentureCo ethos, so what better way to kick things off than to sample some local produce? I suppose we could have tried some of the meat skewers and barbequed corn, but that’s not really in the VentureCo spirit of things. See the third photo for the full range of delicious protein based morsels on offer.
And yes, every single member of the group sampled a silk worm larvae or two, a grasshopper or some other type of creepy crawly. And guess what the general consensus for grilled spicy sillk worms was?
‘Tastes just like Wotsits.’
