Equatorial experiments

The Inca team has now been together for over a week and has had a great time exploring Quito and the surroundings. We started off with a chilled-out weekend in the mountain town of Otavalo and spent our time wandering through the colourful market and recovering from the flights with some hammock action!
After that it was back to school for all of us as we met with our spanish tutors, and there was a concerted effort from the whole team to get to grips with it, no matter what level we were starting from. It was just the homework that was a bit of a shock to most of us! The tutors are great and one of them, Teresa, took us out to explore the Old Town, with its classic colonial architecture and the presidential palace. The view from the top of the Basilica was amazing and so we decided to treat ourselves to the local delicacy of hot chocolate with cheese sandwiches. Opinion was divided! The Culmination of the week was a trip to Cotopaxi National Park, one of the highest active volcanos in the world. The snowy peak rising from out of the clouds was certainly a sight to behold and a fitting end to a great week.
Bring on the next one! (just leave out the homework)
