Phase 2: Mpingo Community Development Project

Weeks 1 & 2

Learn about the ventureCo Trust - click hereAfrican Blackwood Conservation Project (ABCP):
Our project partner in Moshi, Tanzania.

ABCP is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to replenish the valuable blackwood or ebony tree, known as mpingo in its home range of East Africa. The wood is used by African carvers and European instrument makers producing clarinets, oboes, and bagpipes. Over-harvesting has resulted in commercial extinction in many areas, seriously affecting local ecology and economies. The ABCP organises both large-scale replanting of the mpingo tree by community volunteers and youth education on conservation matters in primary and secondary schools. Click here for more.

Project Funding

The project is an ongoing initiative funded by the VentureCo Trust. Each Venture will aim to complete a section of the overall project. The precise objectives for each group are defined at the UK Travel Safety Day, held 6 weeks before departure.

Funding for the development project comes directly from the VentureCo Trust. For each person that joins a Venture, we as a company, donate $400 to the Trust. 100% of the money the Trust receives is spent on projects. To date, the Trust has funded 63 development projects to the tune of over £152,000.
