UK Travel Safety Day

Pre-departure Training

Before you set off on your Venture we invite you to our centre near Stratford-on-Avon to talk about your travel plans and to meet the rest of your team. The “Travel Safety Day” is designed to prepare you for all aspects of travel to the developing world and is held on a Saturday about 6 weeks before you are due to set off. The day is seminar-based and we discuss topics such as travel documentation, health considerations, personal equipment selection and where to buy good quality gear, at the best discounts. We also discuss practical issues such as airline ticket rules, travelling on independently after the Venture, where the development project is located and precisely what you will be doing. Personal travel security and how to avoid undesirable “incidents” is also covered extensively.

During the event you will be given up to date information sheets about health and vaccination requirements, and malaria prophylaxis. We will also give you a copy of the “Venture Field Manual”. This is one of our in-house publications that is a practical guide to your Venture. It is designed to be taken with you on your travels and summarises the information that is essential to an enjoyable and rewarding travel experience.

At the end of the day we will give you details of an online forum where you can get chatting with your group. It allows you to discuss amongst yourselves such topics as equipment selection, onward travel plans and all other aspects of your Venture in the privacy of your own chatroom.

VentureCo’s office staff has literally decades of travel experience in remote, challenging destinations from Algiers to Zanzibar and all the letters in between! The pre-departure training day is a distillation of this experience that we are eager to share with you.

There is no charge for the day. Food and equipment is included.
