Where does the money go? - Introduction

When researching gap year and career gap companies it is crucial that you know where your money is going and how it is being spent. To assist you with this, we have provided a complete breakdown of what happens to the money that you pay for your Venture.

What’s Included in the Cost?

Before you depart on your Venture we provide comprehensive advice, in the form of:-

  • The Venture Handbook, which is a detailed guide to preparing for overseas travel.
  • The Field Manual, which is a detailed guide to living and travelling overseas.
  • The Travel Safety Course with seminars on topics that range from health and vaccination information, to airline rules and personal equipment selection.

During this time you have unlimited telephone support, so that you can talk to us at any time, about any aspect of travel. This will ensure that you are totally prepared for the Venture.

During the Venture all food, accommodation, transport, language tuition and activities are included. At all times you are accompanied by highly experienced and fully trained VentureCo leaders, supported by in-country staff. As leaders in the field of gap year and career gap travel, we ensure that the standard of each Venture is the highest possible. Based on years of experience, we always use the hostels, transport, guides, language schools and activity providers that offer the very best standards.

A significant proportion of the cost of a Venture goes directly to the VentureCo Trust, our registered charity, that funds the development projects. This ensures that the development project you work on is properly funded, with sufficient equipment, expertise and manpower to make sure that as much progress as possible is made during your time on the project site. After you leave the project phase, the VentureCo Trust continues to fund the project, to ensure that the community benefits from it throughout the year. Click here for more on the VentureCo Trust.

Upon returning home from your Venture, you are invited to the Welcome Home Party (which is free to all returning Venturers), as well as other events for ex-Venturers, such as the British 10K London Run.

Flights

As a fully ATOL-bonded company, we arrange group flights for all of our Ventures. Booking group flights allows us to get cheaper seats than if you were to book your own flight individually and it also means the whole group can fly out together. If you wish to travel independently after your Venture, we can arrange for you to fly home at a later date, from a different destination.

If you prefer, you can organise your own flights independently, in which case you only need to pay the “land only” cost of the Venture.

What's Not Included in the Cost?

The cost of the Venture does not include personal spending money, tips, visas, personal travel insurance or immunisations. However it is possible to fundraise to pay for these elements.

In addition all Venturers are eligible for a 20% discount on personal equipment at Escape 2, one of the country’s leading outdoor shops.
