independent travel
Our next departure is on the 18th September 2008, there is still availabilty for this remarkable trip to South America In 1540 Francisco Pizzaro and a band of only 180 men overcame a sophisticated empire of 10 million Incas. His lieutenant, Pedro de Valdivia, must have felt invincible when he set off from Cusco to conquer the southern lands of Patagonia. But he met his match in the Mapuche warriors who captured him and tore his heart out. Patagonia remained Mapuche territory until well into the 19th Century. Patagonia Venture explores Cusco and its surroundings before it too heads south, far beyond the reach of the Incas, to Tierra del Fuego, the “Uttermost Part of the Earth.” The Andean states of Peru and Bolivia contrast sharply with the more Mediterranean feel of Chile and Argentina until the vast emptiness of Patagonia stretches before us.
