Field Conditions

Where do we stay?:

• The Family stays during Cusco language school
• The VentureCo field base on the Polylepis project
• Hostels and guesthouses whilst travelling on the expedition
• Family stay on Lake Titicaca
• Bunk houses on the Uyuni Salt Flats
• Family stay during Pucon language school
• Self supported camping on the Torres del Paine treks
• All meals are provided from the Venture food budget and will reflect the local flavours.

How do we get around?:

• Scheduled flight from Lima to Cusco.
• Buses in and around Cusco
• Trucks to and from the project sites in Peru
• Train to Cusco from Machu Picchu
• Buses when travelling through Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina
• Motorised launch across Lake Titicaca
• Four wheel drive jeeps across the Salar de Uyuni
• Scheduled flight from Puerto Montt to Punta Arenas
• Ferries in Torres del Paine and across the Strait of Magellan

Adventure Activities:

• Whitewater rafting, Mountain biking and volcano climb in Chile
• Wilderness trekking in Peru and Patagonia
• Glacier trekking in Patagonia

Optional Activities:

• Canyoning in Peru
• Kayaking in Chile
• Horse riding in Chile

Group Size:

• 8 to 16 Venturers.
• 2 VentureCo Leaders plus local guides and project co-ordinators.

Venture Safety

• Emergency satellite communication and UK head office backup.
• Major Incident Plan (MIP) rehearsed in our head office and tested.
• Following over 20 years expedition experience throughout South America, we have a tried and tested network of local resources to call upon in times of trouble.
• Emergency evacuation and personal travel insurance: it’s crucial that everyone is covered. Our travel insurance providers are specialists who cover such events as the Paris-Dakar rally and round the world balloon attempts.
