"I led the first small pioneer group on the islands and none of us really knew what to expect but I think we were all touched by the ‘magic’ of the islands and the enthusiasm of the local people we worked with. We all soon felt comfortable in our surroundings with a sense of ownership over the project and the welfare of the islands." James Heal – Galapagos Project Leader 2005 How do I join the project?
The Galapagos Project Time: Four weeks with a two week option The Projects: The Galapagos Islands have a serious problem: human development and nature conservation must move hand-in-hand to ensure the survival of this unique habitat, its flora and fauna. VentureCo's project is focused on the habitat: by removing invasive, non-endemic plants and replacing them with indigenous plants, wildlife will be able to return, breed and thrive. Our project links with the Jatun Sacha Research Station bring you into
contact with Galapagos experts, guaranteeing a rewarding experience whilst
supporting this worthy cause. All projects are funded from The VentureCo Trust. Working with the Jatun Sacha, our Project Partners in Ecuador VentureCo has been working in Ecuador and on the Galapagos since 2001. The three-year Amazon and Andes project in Sangay National Park was successfully completed in 2005; Project Machalilla on the Pacific Coast will continue until at least 2008 and Project Galapagos is now operational following a successful pilot project in 2005. Having Jatun Scaha as project partners provides our groups with unique
access to Ecuador's national parks and the communities living in the buffer
zones. This in turn provides you with an insight into how conservation
work must serve both natural resources and human needs. Overall, your
contribution to the project means that both the local people and the environment
are better off as a result.
