Social Responsibility Policy

Aim:

VentureCo respects the integrity of the local cultures that we visit and strives to avoid any negative impact on the social structure. Furthermore, we work to preserve both indigenous heritage and the survival of fragile communities.

This is achieved by:

  • Briefing Venturers in detail about the destination background, the host community, the local culture and traditions and the local economy. This promotes responsible and appropriate behaviour.
  • Briefings are supported by documents titled The Handbook and the Dossier.
  • There is a specific seminar that deals with this subject at the Build-up weekend.
  • MOST importantly, all Ventures start with a language school and cultural orientation period. Tutors during this phase are local graduates who teach as much about the local culture as they do the language.
  • Finally: all Ventures contain a voluntary work phase, during such phases Venturers are working with indigenous peoples on a variety of small-scale conservation and community projects.
