Small group development projects and Adventure Volunteering

Each Summer Venture includes charitable work with the VentureCo Trust, combined with an introduction to the host culture and an exciting expedition. In South America this can include a Spanish course to help you get the most out of your time away.

  • Cultural orientation:
Learn about your host culture, their language and their famous sites
  • Aid work: Volunteer on a development project
  • Do something different: Travel off the beaten track

Adventure Volunteering
Our Summer Venture programme operates in The Galapagos, Peru, Nepal and Tanzania and you can join for 2, 4, 5 or 6 weeks depending on the destination and your preference. Our development projects are varied and combine conservation and community work. Project work is hands-on with plenty of hard work required to reach the goal. But it’s a lot of fun as well, working in a completely different environment and hand-in-hand with local people, fostering a unique relationships and, more often than not, it is this spirit of goodwill that is the most fulfilling part of the travel experience. On a more serious note, participating on one of our projects provides a better understanding of the socio-economic factors that are affecting some of the world’s poorer regions and how the impact of environmental degradation is brings about change to previously stable communities.

The VentureCo Trust
VentureCo’s development projects started in 1999 and we have completed over 60 projects since then – not bad for a human-size organisation. We regard our projects as a “stand alone” element within the VentureCo stable, not just some bolt-on extra added to satisfy a trend in “green” or “eco” tourism. All our projects are long-term initiatives with sustainable results which means that your contribution provides real worth to the host community.

To give our projects the credibility that they deserve, we formed the VentureCo Trust as a body to source, manage and fund the work. We were thrilled when the Trust was granted UK charitable status in 2005. The VentureCo Trust is funded through private subscription with the bulk of donations received from Venturers as part of their overseas travel cost. VentureCo Worldwide Ltd. provide all administration services to the Trust at no cost which means that all funding received by the Trust, that is every penny, is spent directly on the project overseas.

Adventure Travel and Expeditions
VentureCo travel through some of the world’s most exciting terrain, the Himalayas are the greatest mountains on Earth, the Andes stretch from one end of a continent to another and Africa’s highest peaks dominate a landscape of wild plains and the massive Rift Valley. Our Summer Ventures explore these regions to experience the local cultures and get off the beaten track on a wilderness expedition.

Expert Leaders and a group of new friends

Summer Ventures are a comprehensive travel experience in their own right and a great introduction to a continent if you’re intending to travel on independently. Our Venture leaders are experienced travellers with great “people” skills who are expert at managing project activities as well as having the mountain leader experience to make the expeditions safe and enjoyable. We value our leaders very highly – they are our main asset!

As with our longer term Ventures, you’ll be working and travelling with a group of like-minded people who like to work hard and play hard. Our Venturers come from all walks of life, the age range tends to be 18 to late 30’s and the variety of backgrounds adds real depth to a group’s resources. As well as meeting a great bunch of new friends, you’ll reap great personal benefits from your Venture experience: you’ll be doing new things for the first time, which can be a revealing experience!

As someone once asked us – “Is VentureCo a working holiday, an adventure experience or a personal development course” and the answer is that it’s all of these things and much more. Click through using the links below to fid out how our Summer Venture programme can change the shape of your Summer
