Week-end Break to Majete National Park Itinerary
Friday – Week-end Break to Majete National Park
Your private car and driver will collect you from your accommodation at an agreed time around mid-day. The drive to Majete National Park takes approximately 1½ hrs from Blantyre and descends the escarpment onto the broad floodplain of the Shire River to reach the national park.
Enter Majete National Park and continue along a good piste trail to Thawale Lodge which is within the boundary and built around a large waterhole.
Settle in and set off for an evening game drive. Return to Thawale for dinner and overnight at the lodge: the waterhole is floodlit which makes for unusual dinnertime conversation.
Saturday – Week-end Break to Majete National Park Itinerary
An early start, which is in the best safari tradition; it’s good to be away in the 4X4’s by 06:00 hrs because game is most active around dawn and dusk. Return to Thawale by mid-morning for a late breakfast-come-brunch.
In the afternoon you can either join a boat safari on the Shiree River or drive to the park headquarters for a three hour behind the scenes guided tour which will tell you about the trials and tribulations of running a National Park, from translocating large animals, constructing game-proof fences and anti-poaching patrols. The tour concludes with a village visit to the communities who live around the park and who share their lives with the resident Big Game. Please note there is a 4o US $ additional charge for the behind the scenes visit.
Dinner and overnight at Thawale.
Sunday – Week-end Break to Majete National Park
Your final game drive sets off at 06:00 and follows a different network of trails compared to yesterday’s route. Return to the lodge for late breakfast.
