Thawale Lodge, Majete National Park, Malawi
Thawale Lodge is an honest work-a-day camp-style lodge in the interior of Majete National Park. It is an unsophisticated lodge and places more emphasis on the wildlife and birding experience than it does on the quality of the porcelain plates at mealtimes! It’s an ideal place to stay and explore Majete.
Thawale Lodge Camp
The camp is unfenced and regularly visited by a variety of wildlife: the six large Meru-style tents sit in an arc overlooking the floodlit waterhole. All are en suite and have private verandahs in the front which are perfect for an after-lunch sit-down, armed with binoculars to watch what comes in to drink or bathe. 100% of the camp’s revenue is re-invested into conserving and protecting Majete.
Thawale Lodge Details
A communal lapa (traditional lounge area) with a fully staffed kitchen is the centre of the camp and meals are served in the thatched bamboo restaurant and bar (with a birding veranda) that adjoins. Dinner can be combined with an “under the stars boma night” with entertainment from the local Gule wa Mkulu dancers.
