Where is Shooting Star?
It takes about an hour to drive from the airport to the lodge (40 km). And it’s right on the Northeast Coast, nestled on a headland above Kiwengwa beach, amidst lush tropical gardens with breath-taking panoramic views across the Indian Ocean.
Shooting Star Accommodation
There’s a variety of rooms, villas and cottages all with verandas and several with pools.
Two Monsoon Villas (Kusi and Kaskazi) – Shooting Star Lodge
Each villa is set apart from the main building and consists of 3 floors with 2 bedrooms, each en suite. There’s a roof terrace and a private swimming pool with private tropical garden. They are furnished with traditional Zanzibar furniture and batik linen.
From the roof of the villa you get a 360° view sweeping across the coral reef and the island interior. There is also an inbuilt tub to enjoy a romantic alfresco soak and a rooftop bed so that the fabulous star-filled night sky can be your ceiling.
Ceiling fans and air conditioning are included. Tea/Coffee facilities and mini-fridge, along with all the usual hair-dryer and other accessories.
Sea View Cottages x 11 – Shooting Star Lodge
The cottages are spacious en-suite rooms, built in traditional Zanzibari styles with airy, high-beamed ceilings, large windows, ceiling fan and air conditioning. All have traditionally carved wooden Zanzibari beds, with beautifully mosquito net canopies and matching batik bed covers, along with coconut wood wall mirrors and hand-made teak furniture. Every cottage has its own private veranda.
Four sea-view cottages are on two levels and are ideal for families. The ground floor has a large, air-conditioned double bedroom with en suite shower room. A small staircase leads up to a twin children’s room in the roof space, sharing bathroom and toilet facilities with the room downstairs.
Two further sea-view cottages are interconnected and can be allocated to families.
Garden Lodge Rooms x 3 – Shooting Star Lodge
The garden lodge rooms are en suite, but smaller than the cottages and more simply furnished, with Zanzibari beds, air conditioning and ceiling fans.
Other facilities at Shooting Star Lodge
All the rooms are a traditional Zanzibari chest (padlock provided) for private use as a room safe!
The restaurant has a reputation for a cosy, intimate atmosphere and warm friendly service. The Chef specializes in local seafood, grills and traditional Zanzibari cuisine. There is never a buffet because the idea is to introduce you to local recipes and flavours, so all meals (including breakfast) are produced for you, à la carte. Special diets can easily be catered for, given notice.
Adjoining to the bar and restaurant, and overlooking the pool area, is a traditional sitting area called a “Baraza”. Guests are welcome for a pre-dinner cocktail every evening.
Star Fish Beach Bar
It is the perfect place to sip a fresh juice drink during the day. Complimentary tea and coffee is served during the afternoon.
The Monsoon Beach Bar is also the venue for the famous Seafood BBQ.
Shooting Star Lodge’s Infinity Pool
About 10 m above the beach, on a small bluff, you’ll find the infinity pool with spectacular views over the beach and the Indian Ocean beyond. It’s the perfect place to chill on a traditional lounger (kamba) under a coconut tree and experience the Zanzibari “pole pole” style during your holiday!
