Delhi by car & walking tour (1 day)
Our Delhi by car and walking tour, we collect you just after breakfast and set off with your guide to discover the highlights and hidden gems of Delhi using a private car and guide.
Old Delhi is definitely more filled with hustle and bustle, so it’s best to begin here, in the cool of the morning before daily mayhem begins. From Old Delhi we head into the city and stop at the Jama Mosque, near Manoha Market. This holy place was built by Shah Jahan, the same man who built the Taj Mahal. One of the most amazing facts about this mosque is that it can accommodate 25,000 people. Now that’s what I call a congregation!
Chawri Bazar Road
Opposite Jama Mosque is Chawri Bazar Road – and bizarre it certainly is! To walk down this busy road is to see every aspect of India all in one place. You can also jump into a rickshaw and travel down the road to rendez-vous with your car at the other end.
We will pause for lunch and continue into New Delhi, designed by Edwin Lutyens and includes the Parliament building, Connaught Place and many other central administrative buildings. Also in this area is Rajghat where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated, flanked on each side by peaceful lawns. Part of Lutyens’s brief was retain a third of the area as lawns and green areas.
Flexible Tour Options
This tour is flexible and if you’d like to include Qutub Minar, the 11th Century Islamic minaret which is now a UNESCO world heritage site, or the Bhai Temple which is unique, then the itinerary can be adjusted.
