Day 3-4
Drive to Gorilla Forest Lodge, Bwindi
Transfer time approximately 3 hours

Located deep in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in western Uganda, this intimate lodge offers luxury in the midst of one of Africa’s most amazing natural environments. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Bwindi is one of the most biologically diverse areas on earth including 113 species of mammals (including a herd of the rare forest elephant), 200 species of butterfly and over 360 species of birds. In addition, Bwindi is home to seven species of primates of which the most endangered is the elusive mountain gorilla. Only 700 of these magnificent animals remain worldwide and Bwindi is home to just over half of them.

Gorilla Forest Camp has a bar and dining cottage as well as a natural raised platform for open-air dining. At night, a traditional African campfire is lit where the gorilla briefings take place. Cuisine and service has been described as the best in Uganda. From the outstanding location of Gorilla Forest Camp, other activities include bird watching, forest trekking and visits to the local market and villages. Experienced guides will accompany you on your gorilla trekking where a maximum of eight visitors are allowed to each gorilla family group. Trekking can take anything between half an hour and up to nine hours dependent on the family you are visiting. You will also be trekking at altitudes of 5200 feet so a good level of fitness is required.

Designed to blend seamlessly with the environment, eight spacious double tents raised off the ground on wooden platforms benefit from new en suite facilities that look out onto the surrounding vegetation. Each tent has a spacious wooden veranda where you can relax, enjoy a private meal or simply absorb the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding rainforest.

Day 5
Return to Entebbe – Fly to Nariobi – transfer to Fairview hotel
Transfer from Bwindi to Entebbe – approximately 6 hours.

The Fairview is that rare bird in Africa… a comfortable hotel that hasn’t decked itself out in feathers of upmarket gloss and tasteless luxury. The hotel’s leafy acres and scattered buildings are laid out on Nairobi Hill, a world away from the overheated bustle below.

Day 6-9
Fly Nairobi to Masai Mara – Transfer to Cottars Camp

A 1920’s era feel to this camp set near the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. This camp gives you the authentic feel of that unique era when the word ‘safari’ became indelibly imprinted on the imagination of the adventurer, past and modern. Extending an era of luxury and quality, Cottars Safari Service returns to the original spirit and essence of ‘safari’, reminiscent of a golden era – an era of romance, professional guiding, adventure and elegance.

Drawing on eighty years of Safari service, the Cottar family will provide guests with the highest standard of personalized and professional guiding. Recalling an era of luxury and quality, Cottar’s 1920’s Safari Camp in the Maasai Mara returns to the original spirit and essence of ‘safari’, reminiscent of a golden era – an era of romance, professional guiding, adventure and elegance, in a timelessly unspoiled setting with panoramic views and boundless game.

The Cottar’s 1920’s Safari Camp is situated in our extensive and exclusive concession between the Maasai Mara, Serengeti and Loliondo reserves where a few Purko Maasai clan roam. This area has been untouched by any kind of tourism or development and offers the discerning client a guarantee of privacy.

Most importantly, while the Mara has a reputation of being over congested with mass tourism, we have kept the secret of our area for years – no hot air balloons flying overhead, no minibuses buzzing around, no nearby lodges or low flying aircraft to disturb your special moments. The area is more akin to being in the expansive Serengeti National Park, but with the advantage of ‘off the road’ driving due to the very low vehicle density of the area, and the fact that we can walk and operate ‘night drive’ activities in our community concession.

The camp accommodates up to twelve clients in authentic white canvas tents, which are spacious and luxuriously furnished and incorporate original safari antiques from the ’20’s; private en suite dressing rooms and bathrooms (with old-fashioned showers and flushing toilets), the main bedroom and an outdoor veranda.

Each tent has its own private butler!

Day 9-12
Fly Masai Mara to Nairobi to Lamu Island – Transfer to Kizingo

Kizingo is the ultimate ‘no news, no shoes’ beach resort – a wonderful secluded and tranquil escape from the modern world. The lodge is situated at one end of a spectacular 12-kilometre beach that stretches from Kizingo (which means ‘the point’ in Swahili) to the fashionable village of Shela. Kizingo has eight beautifully appointed bandas (thatched cottages), set well apart from each other. In the early morning you can enjoy tea in bed and watch fishing dhows tack south to Malindi.

Guests can be as private or as social as they wish, opting to enjoy fine dining on the balcony of their banda or join other guests in the bar and the dining room with their magnificent views across the bay to mainland Kenya where giant baobab trees spread into the brilliant blue sky.
