Motswiri

In the heart of the Delta, close to the Linyanti concession, is Motswiri Camp nestled on the bank of the renowned Selinda Spillway which links the Okavango Delta to the Linyanti floodplain. Fantastic game viewing, excellent guides and fit, well-schooled horses combine to make Motswiri quite outstanding.

The riding is simply superb in the reserve: the terrain is a mix of open flood plain, dry savannah and riverine bush which provide great variatiion in pace and experiences as each day evolves.

There are 24 horses at Motswiri; some Thoroughbreds plus Boerperds, Arabs and Kalahari crosses ranging from 14 hh to 17 hh. All are well-schooled, well fed and sympathetically cared for. Above all, they are acclimatised to the area and to the game that you will encounter. There is a choice of English or trail saddles. Max group size is 6 and each ride is led by a guide plus an accompanying assistant groom.

Motswiri does not have set departures and operates on a flexible basis. The minimum suggested stay is 3 nights, but many guests stay 5 or 7 nights. The camp is open throughout the year.

Motswiri works guests quite hard and it’s often the case that you ride for 6 hours per day, so riding fitness is a distinct advantage! This is a riding destination suited to confident and competent riders: you must be able to control your horse at all speeds and gallop out of a situation if required. Each rider is matched to a horse and to the daily itinerary so that all riders are able travel at a similar pace.

You will be invited to complete a riding questionnaire which will enable us to match you to an appropriate horse. Riders should be aged 12 or over and not be heavier than 95kgs / 210 lbs / 15 stone. Motswiri is not suitable for beginners and novice riders.
