Jordan Horse Riding
Jordan is very nearly landlocked and sandwiched between some pretty volatile neighbours: Syria, Israel, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. The fact that it has prospered as an independent, tolerant kingdom is little short of a miracle, particularly given that its population is less than Bristol.
Jordan’s official moniker is “The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan” and draws its name from the River Jordan which forms the western border. It sits at the crossroads between Europe, Asia and Africa. Between the First and Second World Wars it was a British Protectorate, so good relations have persisted between our nations for many, many years.
Jordan is almost unique amongst the Arab nations because it has signed a peace accord with Israel.
With natural wonders such as Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea and the starkly beautiful ancient city of Petra, Jordan is a popular location for movie-makers, most recently “The Martian” which was filmed in Wadi Rum.
The horses in Jordan are Arabs, so this is a riding destination that suits confident riders: Arabs tend to be quick and enjoy making progress!
