The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel has been made famous by Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and Maggie Smith (amongst others!). The hotel doesn’t actually exist outside the film script but it could be any number of hotels in Rajasthan. The film was partly made using the Ravla Khempur hotel an hour outside the Rajasthan town Udaipur. It’s a tiny hotel with just 11 rooms, each with its own gokhara (canopied balcony) and overlooks the hotel’s temple, garden and stable.

The rest of the film was shot on location in Jaipur, which is a wonderful place to explore and we recommend Dera Mandawa; a great place to base yourself and access the interesting city.
